Caring for older people is a demanding task that requires not only time and patience, but also understanding and empathy. Many factors need to be considered to ensure that older people are comfortable and supported in their later years.

Regular routines and a comfortable environment are very important for the elderly - make sure the room where the elderly person sleeps is dark, quiet and cool. Choose a comfortable bed and pillows to maximise resting comfort. Physical activity during the day - encourage the older person to exercise during the day, but avoid strenuous exercise towards the evening.

Create a bedtime ritual - develop a brief ritual that signals your body to get ready for sleep. This could be reading a book, having a warm drink, soft music or other calming activities.

Help them with daily activities such as cleaning, cooking, walking and personal hygiene. Support their social contacts by helping them to keep in touch with family and friends.
